How sectional garages can improve your home

Filed under: Advice — Bob @ 4:18 pm

Garages are a great place to keep your car and any of the equipment and supplies related to the car. That way you don’t have greasy and oily items littered throughout your home or clogging your shed.

Not everyone has a garage, which also adds to their appeal, making them more of a luxury than a simple necessity. Garages can be an easy way of adding value to your home, especially sectional garages as they are cheaper to buy and easier to install.

Having a garage can also open your house to further expansion, for example you can add an additional bedroom on top of the garage itself if it is connected to the house. This can increase the value and space of your home drastically.

Returning to the original point, one of the most valuable aspects a garage can bring to your home is the security benefits to your car, motorbike, etc. This can save money on insurance premiums, as they are generally lower for people who keep their car in a secure location such as a garage.

Garages are definitely a sound investment, even more so if you opt for a cheaper method such as sectional garages.

DIY or DIY not

Filed under: Advice, Decorating — Bob @ 5:08 pm

To keep your house looking great, once in a while we all have to do some DIY. This may not be everyone’s idea of fun but if the job is done properly you can look back at the finished job with pride.

After you have had new carpets fitted, a problem we all face is that the doors no longer fit anymore. Doors can be quite heavy items and your carpet fitter might have taken off the doors for you but you are faced with the task of re-fitting them.

If you own an electric plane then your job is immediately made a whole lot easier. Take measurements from the position of the hinges on the door frame and position of hinges on the door then measure the total new height of the door frame. You can then work out the amount you need to take off the door bottom using the position of the hinge on the door as a guide. This will usually only be in the region of around 5mm or so. Take the door to another room and mark all round the door with a pencil mark. Using an electric plane, remove the excess wood a little at a time. When you have removed enough refit the door. If you need to shave a little more off then repeat the procedure.

When you have new carpets fitted in one room, your other room’s carpets can look a little grubby, especially if you have to plane your doors in the same room. You will normally also have redecorated the room with the new carpet so the other rooms in your home will have seen lots of footfall traffic. Cleaning your carpets after you have done any type of DIY job is a great way to give the rest of your house décor a little boost too. And, if you use the right type of carpet cleaning equipment the job will not only be easier to do but the finished job will look excellent also.

Making use of promotional codes

Filed under: Advice — Bob @ 3:23 pm

I recently did a redecoration of a house that I’m moving into. The renovation included some relatively small-scale DIY jobs and a whole lot of painting. WHen I say a lot of painting I mean repainting every room in the house.

Paint is actually quite expensive, especially when we are at a time of economic gloom and every penny counts. So I started off by choosing my ideal colours and styles. I then shopped around for the prices of my exact colours. After making a list of the best prices for all the paint I wanted, afterwards I made a list of the best prices for a paint colour closely matching each of my paints. When shopping around I also searched the internet for any active promotional codes available. For those that don’t know, promotional codes are unique text and number sequences you can use on certain websites to get discounts. These discounts vary from free delivery to money off.

In the end I found that I was saving £7-10 one each tin of paint by choosing the best price out of these options. I had a promotional code for Tesco Direct that gave me 50% off and free delivery on the paints I wanted.

I bought a total of 8 tins of paint, which gave me an overall saving of about £65.
